If you are interested is starting your own home-based business or if you simply want to make some extra money you can do so by blogging. Making money by blogging is much easier than you would think. Many bloggers and internet marketers today follow an outline of simple steps that have been proven to work time and time again and you can follow in their footsteps with a little technical know-how and a little effort. To do this, you will need the following list of items.
You will need a niche. Selecting a niche is of utmost importance because it will determine your level of both competition and profitability. Some niches are so competitive, that ranking a website for keywords related to that niche requires more resources that it will reward you with. This drives the profitability of that niche down. What a blogger looking to make money would want is a niche with low competition and high keyword search volume. Finding a niche that fits that description is tough and will take time, but research in this area is an absolute necessity.
After you have selected a niche, you will need your own domain name. Having your own domain name is very important because of the fact that you have complete control of the content that you put on your site. Owning your own site is necessary if you are going to monetize it with affiliate products or services because many Web 2.0 properties no longer allow affiliate marketing. This being the case, your own domain name allows you to monetize it in any way you see fit.
Next, you will need hosting. Hosting is very important and the necessity of avoiding free hosting cannot be over-stated. The problem with free hosting is that it severely limits several things such as the amount of hard disk space that you can use, the amount of MySQL database space you can use, your bandwidth is limited and most importantly, it limits the size of files that you can upload. This is very important because the best blogging platforms require third party plugins that allow your blog to have the specialized capabilities it will need to become a fully monetized business. Paid hosting is not expensive and quality shared hosting can be purchased for as little as five dollars per month. Avoid free hosting because it will cost you more money than it will save you in the long run.
You will need content. High quality useful content is the key to making all of this work. Unique and relevant content will act as a catalyst that makes the monetization of your blog possible. The reason for this can be summed up in one word…trust. If a visitor visits your website, you will need to gain their trust if you are going to convince them to click on you affiliate link. High quality, convincing content or sales copy.
These items are just the beginnings of what you will need if you are going to make money blogging. The really nice thing about blogging is that it is easy scalable, meaning that once you figure out how to do it with one blog, then you can easily rinse and repeat your efforts in as many niches as you like and make even more money blogging. How can I make money blogging if I’m under 18?
Hi, I want to make money blogging, but the problem is I’m under 18… Is there any way I can still make money online?
How can I make money blogging?
I just got a great idea for a blog. Any good sites for me to blog on? Would it be better to start my own website/domain? What are the ways I could make money from blogging? Is it solely advertising?
Sure, you can make good money blogging and it is easy to start for free, just sign up to http://www.blogger.com and set up a free account.
You now have a few choices, you can:
1.Earn from the Google Adsense Program
2. Promote an affiliate product
3. Sell your own product
4.Do a combination of the above
I have a perfect example of this, 3 days ago I created a Twitter Adder program and set up a free Google blog to promote it.
Here’s the site I made:
http://twitteradderpro.blogspot.com
I then created a Twitter account and using my software started to build a following. I then pomoted my product, but not aggressively, just the odd update and snippit of information I thought people might be interested in. By the end of the second day the orders started to come in and I got an amazing testimonial from one of my buyers. I think the reason why the testimonial was so good was that the guy couldn’t believe what he was getting for his money…I set out to provide value and achieved what will be a loyal, returning customer.
The secret is to write about something you are passionate and knowledgable about. If you can then create a Ebook on your subject then you can offer it for sale on your site. The ebook should be in PDF format and you can easily create one online using Google Docs.
As you can see, you can do it in a couple of days and promote the blog by using social networking sites like Twitter, Myspace, Facebook etc. You can also use forums in your niche to promote your product too.
I expect to make a couple of hundred dollars by the end of this week and will also have a recurring source of income.
I have some tutorials, free ebooks and software for bloggers on my website. I recommend you go there and learn everything you can.
It really isn’t hard to do, just be passionate about your subject, arouse your readers curiousity and make some money.
Good luck, you can do it
First off, definitely get your own domain name, it will be a lot better for you in the long run. As far as monetizing a blog, there are many different ways, you mentioned advertising which is the obvious choice, however you need a large amount of traffic to make a decent amount of money with advertising. Affiliate marketing can be a great way to make money, depending on your niche. Amazon and eBay have programs that allow you to show products on your site, and get a % based commission off every sale made. You can also sign up with an affiliate marketplace, like Click Bank – they have many different products you can sell in a variety of niches. Some of them pay as high as 75% commission. You can also run a membership site, where some of the content is free, and the rest is hidden unless you are a paid member. Again you’ll need a decent amount of traffic for this, and really good content.
Hello!
The biggest secret to being a “profitable” blogger is blogging about your passion. Blogs that are built with a reason of making money usually don’t make it far and do not make money.
You need to update your blog often. Once a day is the BEST but if you cannot do so, try to update it at least 2-3 times a week – this way your readers will see that you update often, they will come back and read your blog again, maybe click on some ads, buy something from your blog…
Blogger.com is great but I prefer WordPress.com
To give you an idea, check out my blog: http://blog.extra-paycheck.com – I built it with WordPress and I do not have any DESIGN or technical skills!
Best of Luck,
Alex
No, not really. You only make money by blogging if you have something to say that other people will pay money to read. The average 13 year old doesn’t have anything to say that would be worth paying money to read. Other teens might be interested, but they generally don’t have the money to spend, nor do they have access to money to spend.
